44th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees

19th – 21st November 2015
Hotel Intercontinental, Prague, Czech Republic

In November, delegates and guests of the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees will gather in Prague. The General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees has previously been held in the Czech Republic in November 1999, and in June 2003 Prague welcomed the supreme sports representatives when it hosted the 115th Session of the International Olympic Committee.

„It will be an honour for us to present the Czech capital again after twelve years to senior representatives of the sports world. It will also be an opportunity to highlight Prague as a locality able to host international events of this calibre,“ said Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Roman Kumpošt.

Honorary guests

Thomas Bach

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah

President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC)

Patrick Joseph Hickey

President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC)

"We are honoured to welcome the world’s pre-eminent sports diplomats to Prague. We thank the European Olympic Committees for conferring on the Czech Republic the hosting of the 44th General Assembly as recognition of the Czech Olympic Committee’s international activities over recent years. We wish the delegates a successful assembly and also a pleasant time discovering the history, culture and traditions that unite this country of ten million people in the centre of Europe."

Prague

Cubism and beyond

Prague, the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic, is widely renowned as being one of the most beautiful cities and attractive tourist destinations in Europe. The historical centre of the town with its unique panorama of Prague Castle, the largest castle complex in the world, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists from around the world are attracted to the city’s historical centre and to its Cubist architecture.

Cubism is a uniquely Czech architectural style. The largest number of buildings in this style, which create a very strong impression, are located below the ramparts of the legendary Vyšehrad stronghold. Cubism therefore became the main inspiration for the organisers and will be clearly visible in the decoration of the congress hall for the EOC General Assembly.

European Capital of Sport

In the Olympic year 2016 Prague will bear the title European Capital of Sport. This title has been awarded by the European Capitals of Sport Association since 2001 and every year a recipient city is selected by the member states of the European Union. The Czech capital was awarded the title for its systematic work in the area of sport and physical education, particularly among the young, the handicapped and senior citizens, and also for the significant support given to international and public events in the city.
